Concerned Citizen Talks About Fast Driving in Keota
KEOTA – During the June 18 meeting of the Keota City Council, a concerned citizen raised complaints about people driving too fast in town. He stated that he had seen a driver go 35 mph on Centennial Street, near the pool, almost hitting kids on bicycles, and that he had seen multiple people drive through the stop sign by the funeral home without slowing down. He stated he was worried about this, due to all the kids running around near the pool. Mayor Tony Cansley recommended writing down the license plate numbers and making a formal complaint, in hopes that it will deter fast drivers if one gets caught. Councilman Matt Greiner brought up the idea of putting a flashing stop sign; the concerned citizen stated he doesn’t think the problem is not seeing stop signs.
Adam Clark, one of the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Deputies who worked during fun days, reported that everyone was polite and calm, resulting in no calls to the sheriff’s department. The council approved requesting $2,000 from Keota Unlimited and $2,149 from the community club to pay the city back for money spent to purchase 12 new light pole snowflake Christmas decorations. The council approved a $5,998 bid to remove and replace 239 feet of gutters at the library. The council approved rolling over money in two CD accounts for 18 more months to get better interest rates.
