Dahlstrom and Wolver Guide Panthers Past Wolves

PACKWOOD—On June 18, the Pekin Panthers baseball team hosted Winfield-Mt Union for an SEISC matchup. The Panthers secured the conference victory over the Wolves by a final score of 5-3.

After an inning of play, the Panthers quickly found themselves in a 3-1 hole. They responded immediately with three runs in the second and one in the third. They held onto this lead to secure the 5-3 victory. 

Senior Sven Dahlstrom got the start from the bump with five innings pitched, three earned runs on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Senior JaeDon Wolver came in relief with two innings pitched, no earned runs on no hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

When asked about his mentality when he steps up the mound, senior Sven Dahlstrom responded with, “Stay relaxed and focused.”

Senior JaeDon Wolver shared his sentiment with, “Just throw strikes and know my team has my back.”

Wolver went on to speak on the momentum the team has gained with some conference wins at home with, “I think we are all getting more relaxed. We are getting more comfortable with where our spot is and we are able to execute.” 

The Panthers offense was led by Wolver as well, as he tallied two RBIs on triple and two walks. Senior Deklan Hampton, sophomore Riley Smith and freshman Henry Adam also knocked in a runner for the Panthers.

The Panthers push to 6-7 on the season, and will return to action on June 19, when they visit the Lone Tree Lions.
