Darrell Olson

1929-2022

Darrell Olson, age 92, of Sigourney, died Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

Darrell was born August 13, 1929, in Eagle Grove, the son of Ole and Anna (Meier) Olson and graduated from Eagle Grove High School.  He then served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.  On December 12, 1959, he married Doralene Walker in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived in Des Moines and then moved to the Sigourney area in 1970. In 1979, they returned to Ankeny, then back to Sigourney in 1989. Darrell drove a truck for Bruce and Mid American - ANR for 40 and a half years, retiring in 1989.  He also worked at First Resources for several years. Darrell was a member of Teamsters Union Local 147 and enjoyed sitting outside, woodworking, fishing and traveling.

Survivors include four children: Deborah (Ronnie) Repp of Sigourney, Thomas (Kala) King of Confidence, James Olson of Ankeny and Jack (Patricia) Olson of Bondurant; 24 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and sister-in-law: Jackie Culp of What Cheer. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years: Doralene; son: Brad Olson; two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three brothers: Harold, John and Donald and sister: Luella Carpenter.

Memorial visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Burial will be at Garrett Cemetery near Delta at a later date.
