1928-2020

Della (Berty) Lewis, 92, of Sigourney, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020 at the Manor House in Sigourney. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 3 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. No visitation will be held. Memorials may be directed to the What Cheer United Methodist Church. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of What Cheer is in charge of the arrangements.

Della Alberta (Berty) Lewis was born July 2, 1928 to William and Viola (Murdock) McKay in Gibson, Iowa. She married Donald E. Lewis Dec. 24, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2004. She attended school in Green Valley, Williamsburg and What Cheer graduating in 1946. She attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years receiving a teaching certificate. She taught sixth grade in What Cheer three years and one year in Manawa, Wisc. She also was a clerk-typist in Federal Service for several years. She and her husband, a US army soldier, lived in several states and also the Panama Canal zone for five years. They returned to What Cheer in 1980 to live. She and her husband, Don, ran the Shann Shack for four years. She was a caregiver to her mother, mother-in-law and husband for several years. She was a member of the What Cheer Methodist Church and a long - time member of the Order of Eastern Star. 

Berty is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don; her five brothers, Maynard, Bill Jr., Eugene, Earl and Ralph; her sisters, Irene Baxter, Mildred Koehn, Kathleen Dillin, and Virginia Fraser.

Berty is survived by her sister Harriett Caswell; as well as many other nieces, nephews and other friends.
