Detweiler’s Four Triples Highlight Keota Win
THORNBURG – All 13 Eagles scored for Keota in their 88-30 win at Tri-County last Tuesday, Feb. 9. Carson Sprouse led the nylon scorching Eagles with 14 points, Luke Hammen and Dakota Detweiler each had 12 in close pursuit of Sprouse.
“I’m very proud of these guys, last night we hit 14 3-point baskets, tonight we hit 15. We’ve got at least a share of the conference title,” Coach Stout said.
Patrick Clarahan scored the first points of the night on a one-for-two trip to the free throw line with 6:09 left in the first quarter.
Tri-County’s Kobe Riffel put the Trojans on the scoreboard 58 seconds later with a triple.
The Eagles really started to have their talon-ts shine again, finishing the quarter with a 25-3 run to go up 26-6 after the first period.
Keota would continue their basket barrage, going up 42-10 at half, with the half being punctuated by a Detweiler 3-point basket with 11.9 seconds left.
After three quarters, the lead expanded to 61-27 and the final score was 88-20.
Keota looks to continue their bop to the top as the Eagles took on the Twin Cedars Sabers last night in Class 1A Substate 6 First Round action.
Note: Coach Stout notched his 300th career victory on Feb. 2, 2021 in a 57-36 win at Sigourney.
“It’s a nice accomplishment, it’s obviously kids winning ball games. I just come over and watch them. Me and Larry (Lyle) have been doing this together for 19 years, it’s been awesome. My wife has been a great supporter for all the years, I’ve had two kids come through the program already that are part of 70-80 wins, so that means a lot. It’s a family thing here, the way we look at it. I’ve got a lot of nephews playing on the team now, it’s really a neat thing,” Coach Stout said of what 300 wins means to him.
