Dorothy Fisher

1920 - 2022

SIGOURNEY-Dorothy Kathryn Fisher, of Keswick, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Windsor Place Senior Living in Sigourney, at the young age of 102.

Dorothy was born August 5, 1920, in Harper, Iowa, the first of six children of Joseph and Maude (Clarahan) Vogel.  She received her education at St. Elizabeth School in Harper.  On October 8, 1940, Dorothy married Elvin “Bub” Fisher at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper.  To this union three children were born, Larry, Marlene and Lynn.

Dorothy spent 70 years of her life on a farm north of Keswick.  She was the ideal farm wife, planting and harvesting her large crop of fruits and vegetables each year.  Her baked goods were the best, for which we all have the recipes, but have never been able to match her special touch.

Survivors include three children: Larry (Jolene) Fisher of Washington; Marlene Asher of West Des Moines and  Lynn (Sue) Fisher of Keswick; seven grandsons; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and brother: Gordon Vogel of Louisville, Kentucky.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bub in 1980; grandson: Todd Asher; brothers: Joe in infancy, Joseph and Stanley and sister: Marie.

Funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 30, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.  Burial was at Sorden Cemetery in rural Keswick.  Visitation was from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

A memorial fund has been established for Essence of Life Hospice.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Dorothy and her family.  Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
