EagleRock! Has Good Showing at State Show Choir
KEOTA – Keota High School hosted an Iowa High School Music Association State Show Choir Contest on Jan. 29. The Keota show choir team, EagleRock!, performed what director Jane Edwards called an “It’s all good” show, singing “Get It, Got It, Good” (Soloists: Luke Moeller and Dakota Dodd), “Good” (Soloist Landyn Greiner), “Feelin’Good (Soloists Grace Conger, Ava Greiner, Dakota Dodd and Kate Elam), and “Good Feeling” (Soloist Noah Fisher). “My choreographer (Grant Luther) picked the show and we kept going through songs until we found a good combination,” said Edwards, who has been coaching show choir for 49 years.
The judges noted that the show was well rehearsed, but noted that the team went off-tempo in several places, needs more commitment to their movements, needs more pop and energy, needs to stand with their chests high and show big smiles, and needs to build in energy as the song goes on, instead of starting at full energy. “(It went) not near as well as it could. I know what they practiced like two weeks ago and it’s very obvious we’ve not had any rehearsals in the last three weeks,” said Edwards.
Keota received a second place Excellent rating, a rating shared with competitors West Liberty, Central Lee, Albia and Keokuk. West Branch and Clear Creek Amana received first place Superior ratings. Kate Elam, Ava Greiner and Landyn Greiner were named as Outstanding Performers.
“You all need to watch EagleRock! at some point in time during their competition season or at their home concert,” said Edwards. The home concert is planned for the last Wednesday in April.
