English Valleys Girls Track Team Takes Home First as SICL Meet

MARENGO—On May 29, the Iowa Valley Tiger hosted the 2024 SICL Conference Meet. The English Valleys Bears girls track team took home first with an aggregate score of 115, while the HLV Warriors were right behind with a team score of 113.

For the English Valleys girls team, Ava Gerhking led the charge for individuals with first place finishes in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Senior Delaney Hall also placed sixth in the 100 meter dash. 

In the 100 meter hurdles, Kailor Lown led the charge for the Bears as she secured third place with a time of 18.91.

In the 800 meter dash, Aubrey Achenbach placed fifth with a final time of 2:41.54.

The other Achenbach twin, Addison Achenbach, took home first place in the 1500 meter run, while finishing in fourth in the 3000 meter run. Kaylee Frazier also secured fifth place in the 1500 meter run, while sixth in the 3000.

Kennedy Axmear shined once again in the field event. Her shot-put toss of 37-06.50 was good enough for second place. In the discus event, she secured first place with a longest throw of 33-09.00. Teammate Taylor Mikesell also placed third in the shot-put event, while also securing fourth in the discus. 

For team relays, the Bears placed first in the 4x200, while also securing second place in the 4x100. 

The English Valleys boys placed fifth with a final score of 78.

Gage Heyne put on a show for the spectators by winning the 800, the 1600 and the 3200. On top of that, he set a new course record for the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.28.

Senior Myles Grove also took home third place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:58.2.

In the 100 meter dash, Deshone Anderson bolted to a sixth place finish with a time of 12.16. Anderson also took home fourth place in the long jump with a longest leap recorded at 20-01.00.

Jonathyn Downing secured seventh place in the 400 meter dash with a final time of 55.77.

For the field events, AJ Bruns earned fourth place with his longest throw recorded at 116-09.

For the relays, the Bears took home first place in the 1600 meter relay, while also taking home third place in the 4x800.

The Sigourney girls team tied with Montezuma for seventh place with a score of 52.

Reagan Clarahan showed why she qualified for the 400 meter hurdles last year, as she placed second in the event with a time of 1:11.65. 

Addison Yates earned third place finishes in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Mason Clarahan finished her race in seventh.

Kia Montgomery showed off the motor once again, as she breezed to a third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.30. Gwen Gatton also placed ninth in the same event with a time of 1:10.03.

Lastly for the Sigourney girls team, Josephine Moore finished in fifth place in the discus event with a longest throw recorded at 86-03.

For team events, the Savages took home the bronze in the 4x100 and the 4x200 races. 

The Sigourney boys placed seventh with an aggregate score of 52.

In the 110 meter hurdles, Caden Clarahan finished in fourth with a time of 16.44, while Owen Menke placed ninth with a time of 18.24.

Troy Klett put on a show, as he secured fourth place in the 3200 meter run, while also securing fifth place in the 1600 meter run.

In the 100 meter dash, Colt Reed ended his race in eight with a time of 12.33.

For field events, Caden Clarahan earned a bronze medal with a throw of 42-03.00, while Jayden Thompson was right behind in fourth place with a throw of 41-04.25. Thompson also earned fifth place in the discus toss with a throw of 115-07.

For the relay events, the Savages finished the 4x400 in third place with a time of 3:40.58, while also taking home fifth in the 4x200.

The Keota Eagles girls track team placed 11th with a team score of 13. 

In the long jump event, Izzi Chalupa placed sixth with a longest leap of 14-02.00. Chalupa also placed 11th in the 100 meter dash. 

Also in the 100 meter dash, Olivia Lyle placed ninth with a time of 14.45. Lyle also secured sixth place in the 200 meter dash.

Lastly for the Eagles, Kimberly Clarahan earned eight place in the 100 meter hurdles.

The Keota boys finished in 11 with a team score of 11.5.

Aidyn Galindo guided the Eagles with a fourth place finish in the high jump, while also finishing in sixth place in the long jump.

In the 800 meter run, Jack Greiner finished his race in seventh with a time of 2:12.18.

The HLV girls team, which is highlighted by Tri-County athletes, placed second with an aggregate score of 113.

Tri-County’s Aaliyah Cooper, a 2023 state qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles, took home the gold in the 400 meter hurdles with  a time of 1:09.91.

Another Tri-County athlete highlighted the Warriors team, as Lily Randall fourth in the long jump and 100 meter dash. 

The Hall sister of Tri-County, Emery and Ayla, shined in the 800 meter run. Emery Hall took home the gold with a time of 2:29.05, while Ayla finished her race in third with a time of 2:40.08.

The Savages, Eagles and Warriors will return to action on May 9 for the 2024 State Qualifying Meet at Sigourney High school, while English Valleys will head to BGM for their state qualifier.
