Erma Lou Scearcy, 83, died early Monday January 23, 2023, at Parkview Home in Wayland. She was born May 30, 1939, in Orchard City, CO to Lynn Robinson and Viola Vivian Hamilton Pollock. Her family moved to Iowa in 1951 and she graduated from Mt. Ayr High School in 1957. Erma married Charles M. Scearcy in Ollie on January 22, 1958, and lived most of her life in the Ollie area. She and her husband delivered newspapers in the area for 40 years and helped mow. She was involved in Ollie Baptist Bible School, and taught Sunday school, was a member of the Ollie Baptist Sewing Club, volunteered at the Clothes Closet in Sigourney, caregiver and cheered her kids and grandkids in their sports.
Erma is survived by her children: Bob Scearcy of Ollie, Susan Schwerin of Kalona, Deborah Bellmer (Bob) of Ainsworth, JoAnn Scearcy-Robe (Mark) of Kalona, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, brothers: John Pollock of Malvern, Iowa, Tom (Helen) Pollock of Malvern, Iowa, Frank (Judy) Pollock of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, sister-in-law Mary Michael of Eaton, OH, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, daughter Barbara and husband George Rozenboom, an infant child, granddaughter Shannon Swindler and grandson Jeremy Robe, brother James Pollock, sisters-in-law, Patty Pollock, Catherine Pollock, and Karole Hintermeister.
Erma has been cremated and Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, January 26, at the Ollie Baptist Church with Pastor Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie. Visitation will be held immediately preceding the service beginning at 10 A.M. General memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the family at: 3143 190th Street, Ainsworth, IA 52201. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
