1926-2021
Evelyn Jacobs, 94, died Jan. 1, 2021, at Manor House in Sigourney. She was born March 30, 1926, to Lawrence and Nellie (Hall) Peiffer near Clear Creek, Iowa. She attended school in Keokuk County. In her early years, she babysat for other families and worked at Rexall Drug’s soda fountain in Sigourney. On March 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Frank Jacobs at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Sigourney, Evelyn was a homemaker and helped Frank at his Case IH Implement dealership and later at his gas station business. She also did childcare in their home, having cared for over 70 children in a 40-year span. On any given time, you could find her spending countless hours in the kitchen cooking, baking, and canning and freezing from their huge garden. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters and especially with her twin sister.
She relished in the time she spent with the love of her life after 66 years of marriage. They spent their time walking hand-in-hand, bicycle riding, yard work, going on motorcycle rides, traveling, working in the garden together, Saturday night dates dancing, playing Pinochle, and spending time with their family. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, on May 7, 2016; twin sister, Roselyn Fisher; sisters, Phyllis Hensley and Marlene Davisson; and brother, Stanley Peiffer.
She is survived by children, Joyce Ann Jacobs of Waukee; Frank Jr. (Sheila) Jacobs of Calif.; Sheila (Larry) Gould of Webster; Sandra (Jeff) Redlinger of Carroll; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Marian Magness of Grass Valley, Calif.; brother-in-law, Richard Davisson of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Clear Creek Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Clear Creek Foundation.
Memorial Mass will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Siogurney.
Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Arrangements by Holm Funeral Home.
According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is required for attending this public event.
