Football Realignment: Sigourney-Keota to Remain 1A, Pekin Downgrades to A and North Mahaska Remains A Local Eight Player Schools Have District Shuffle As Well

Redistricting for high school football in Iowa happened on March 11. Notably, the IHSAA has added a 5A class.

 

Locally, here are the district and class updates for schools that The News-Review covers.

Eight-player:

English Valleys and Tri-County: 

The Bears and the Trojans were both in 8P-4 in 2020 and are in 8P-6 in 2021 and 2022. New teams in this district are: HLV and Iowa Valley.

Class A:

North Mahaska:

The Warhawks move from A-7 to A-6. New teams in this district are: Colfax-Mingo, Madrid, Ogden and Wayne.

Pekin:

The Panthers have downgraded from 1A-6 to A-5 as they have one of the smaller 9-11 enrollments for Class 1A.

New teams in this district are: Alburnett, Columbus Community-Columbus Junction, Highland, Riverside, Lisbon, North Cedar, and Wapello.

Sigourney-Keota:

The Cobras will remain in 1A-6, but as seen with other local schools, some new teams will appear. Central Decatur-Leon, Pella Christian and Pleasantville.
