Gale Joseph Conrad, 100

Gale Joseph Conrad, 100, died January 18, 2024, surrounded by his family at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, Iowa. He was born December 29, 1923 near Hillsboro, Iowa to Edward and Theresa Woltering Conrad.  He graduated from Keota High School and worked at the Singmaster Ranch near Keota. Joe was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps on August 1, 1946, and he was stationed in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. He was a weather man and a chauffeur, driving officers around the island. He was honorably discharged March 23, 1947.  On January 27, 1948, he married Dorothy Redlinger at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper, Iowa.  They made their home near Rose Hill.  Joe farmed many years near Talleyrand and the Rose Hill area. He also was a feed dealer for Full-O-Pep and BP Feed. Joe and Dorothy retired and moved to Sigourney on 1988.

He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in What Cheer and later St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Joe enjoyed going to the Senior Center and visiting and seeing people. He loved spending time with his family putting together jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy on January 2, 2009, daughter Bonnie Weber, infant grandson Seth Howar, siblings Kenneth Conrad, Virginia Groff, Darlene Flynn, Donald Conrad, Ronald Conrad and son-in- law John Dennis.

He is survived by his children Janet (Dan) Brochu of East Longmeadow, MA, Larry (Joyce) Conrad of Walker, Beverly Dennis of Bloomfield, Karen (Alva) Calvert of Barnes City, Donna (Raymond) Adams of What Cheer, Mary (John) Molyneux of What Cheer, John (Denise) Conrad of Rose Hill, Randy (Melanie) Conrad of Ottumwa, Alan (Laurie) Conrad of Basehor, KS, Connie (Jeff) Howar of Rose Hill, Gary (Channa) Conrad of Rose Hill, Gordon (Gina) Conrad of Colfax, 41 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren and brother Dennis Conrad of Keota.

Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Thursday January 25, 2024 St. Mary Catholic Church – Sigourney
Burial Thursday January 25, 2024 St. Mary Cemetery – Keota
Prayer Service 4:00 p.m. Wednesday January 24, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church - Sigourney.  
Visitation  Wednesday January 24, 2024 following prayer service until 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church - Sigourney

Memorials may be made to: Sigourney Senior Citizen Center, Keokuk County Hospice Foundation, or St. Mary Catholic Church – Sigourney
