Gordon Anthony Vogel, 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023. 

He was born on January 17, 1938 in Harper, Iowa to the late Joseph A. and Mary Maud (Clarahan) Vogel. He is also preceded in death by son, Daniel Vogel and siblings, Marie Oliver, Dorothy Fisher, Joseph R. Vogel and Stanley Vogel. 

Gordon grew up on a farm in Iowa and was a member of the 4-H club and young farmer. An Army veteran, relocated to Louisville where worked as a real estate agent for 18 years and a mortgage broker for 24 years. He earned designation as a "C.R.B" Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager; he was the past president of the Optimist Club of Jeffersontown, KY, past president of the Louisville Lions Club, and a Kentucky Colonel. His proudest moments were watching his two daughters grow with their beautiful families with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gordon “Gordo the Great” was truly one of a kind. A man of many interests and hobbies, he was a World Champion Pipe Smoker, storyteller, woodworker, craftsman, flame-throwing car builder, knower of details, J-Town icon and lifelong competitor. His was a lover of Iowa, tractors, chocolate, ice cream, warm rooms, college basketball and his family. He will forever be a legend and a lovable rascal to all those who knew him. 

Gordon is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy Ryan (Kevin), Vicki Vogel (Andrew Winkler), grandchildren, Kelly Colson (Chris), Kristen Sattich (Alex), Carson Winkler, Olivia Winkler, great-grandchildren, Sienna Colson, Grady Colson, Wyatt Sattich and Dallas Sattich. 

Visitation was from 4 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, May 9, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions East Chapel (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243). 

Visitation was also from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

The family requests that contributions in Gordon’s memory may be made to Hosparus Health or St Jude's Children's Hospital.
