SIGOURNEY – On Jan. 13, after ten years of requests to include soccer as a high school sport, the Sigourney Community School District Board of Education approved a coed JV soccer team for the upcoming spring 2021 season. The approval was won with a close 4-3 vote.

The 2021 first year team is projected to be a co-ed junior varsity team comprised of boys and girls in 9, 10 and 11th grade. The JV team will not have a postseason. As a condition of the Board’s approval, the petitioners for the team have committed to raise the initial equipment startup costs of upwards of $5700. The equipment is expected to include game goals, portable practice goals, field corner flags, game balls, practice balls, and team player uniforms. The future annual equipment purchases should be minimal and limited to uniforms and replacement balls as needed.

Please contact the high school if you would like to donate to help purchase the initial equipment.
