Homecoming Dominance, SK Throttles Cardinal, 60-0
It was a case of total domination last Friday, September 20 when Sigourney-Keota throttled Cardinal 60-0 during the Cobras Homecoming game.
A 34 point first quarter jump started the shutout performance.
“We took care of business like I expected us to,” said Sigourney-Keota head coach Jared Jensen. “The kids were excited from the very beginning and kept their focus.
Senior Isaac Bruns started the scoring onslaught with a 45 yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. He finished the game with two scores on top of 105 yards on eight carries.
Junior spin back Brayden Wood extended the lead to 14-0 with a three yard touchdown run before throwing his first touchdown pass of the season. A 19 yard strike to senior Brady Clark.
For the game, Wood completed three of four passes for 55 yards and the one score.
“This will help Brayden’s confidence,” Jensen said. “Our blocking scheme was much better and we attacked blocks instead of waiting for the defense.”
Capping off the scoring in the first quarter was sophomore Ike Molyneux with a six yard touchdown run of his own.
In the second quarter fellow sophomore Carson O’Rourke crossed the goal line after scampering 22 yards and Brady Clark closed out the first half with a 67 yard interception return for a touchdown.
During the second half, which both teams played only freshman, Sigourney-Keota got an 11 yard touchdown run from Keegan Clarke along with a 26 yard touchdown pass from Blake Baker to Hunter Sellers.
The victory marked a career milestone for head coach Jared Jensen as it was his 100th victory as Sigourney-Keota head coach. Something the humble coach equates to the people he’s worked with and coached over the years.
