Joe’d Axmear

1943-2022

South English- Joe’d Axmear was born January 23, 1943, at home on the farm near Webster, Iowa, the son of Clifford Maurice & Jean Ellen (Horras) Axmear. He graduated from Tri-County High School in 1961. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On June 4, 1971, Joe’d was united in marriage to Karen Ann Brockshus at Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Williamsburg. He was a life long farmer with a strong work ethic that he shared with his children and grandchildren. Joe’d was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Victor. He enjoyed coaching his children’s little league teams, watching his grandchildren's sporting events/activities, playing pepper, solving problems and helping everyone in any way he could. Joe’d died on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney, Iowa at the age of 79 years.

He is survived by his wife Karen of South English; three children Will (Elaine) Axmear of Nevada, Jesse (Anne) Axmear of North English, and Ellen Axmear of Fairbanks, Alaska; son-in-law Lynn Pope of North English; 8 grandchildren: Lauren Pope, Kaeley, Natalie, Drake, Edie & Abe Axmear and Olivia & Brooke Axmear; brothers John (Connie) Axmear of Keswick and David Axmear of Sigourney; and two sisters Evelyn Garns of Van Meter and Charlotte Axmear of Norwalk. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Amney Pope; an infant son Chad Michael Axmear; and a brother George Axmear.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1 at St. John Lutheran Church, Victor. Burial will be in the White Pigeon Cemetery, near Webster. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 31, from 3- 6 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. A memorial fund has been established for St. John Lutheran Church, Victor.
