Kenneth Joseph Greiner 

1941 - 2022

Kenneth Joseph Greiner, age 81, of Keota, died Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

Kenneth was born June 26, 1941, in Talleyrand, to Bernard and Adella (Adam) Greiner and graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Harper in 1959.  He served in the National Guard as a Tank Loader for eight years, where he qualified as a Sharpshooter on M-1 rifle and .45 caliber pistol. On August 21, 1965, he married Barbara Irving at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City.  The couple owned and operated K & B Farms in the Talleyrand area where they raised cattle, sheep and hogs.  He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and later Holy Trinity Parish.  Kenneth enjoyed farming, doing show pigs, deer hunting, taking staycations and spending time with family.

Survivors include six children: Robert Greiner of Keota, Joseph (Brenda Walker) Greiner of Wellman, Cindy (Brian) Culich of Des Moines, Brian (Shannon) Greiner of Keota, Michelle (Todd) Swearingen of Hedrick and Melissa (Robin Maras) Greiner of Riverside; 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one on the way; three brothers: Francis B. (Evelyn) Greiner of Keota, Ernest Greiner of Ollie and Anthony (Cathy) Greiner of Keota and seven sisters: Caroline Crawford of Knoxville, Tennessee, Donna (Robert) Marshek of Iowa City, Bernadine (Dick) Huff of Tiffin, Martha (Don) Mousel of Clear Lake, Irene (Red) Gipple of Crawfordsville, Kathleen (Kevin) Greiner of Keota and Theresa Greiner of Washington.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Barbara in 2021; two brothers: Arnold Greiner and Elmer Greiner and one sister: Mary Catherine Greiner.

Funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.  The service was livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page.  Burial was at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.  Visitation was from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday at the church.
