Kalona – They weren’t going to make it easy on them.

Although Hillcrest Academy was able to win the post season match 3-0 the Eagles sure gave the Ravens a fight in the first round of the class 1A playoffs held Oct. 21 in Kalona.

While the Ravens were able to work their way to a quick lead in the first set, Keota did just enough to keep the Ravens off guard.

Keota and Hillcrest Academy were able to trade the lead throughout the first set. Eventually the Ravens were able to build a lead and work their way to a 25-13 win.

The second set would be more of the same as the Keota battled the Ravens, but couldn’t quite hold on to a lead. The second set ended with another Hillcrest Academy win, 25-13.

In the final set the Eagles again battled as long as they could, but Hillcrest Academy was able to win 25-13 to earn the sweep and move on in the tournament.

Izzi Chalupa and Niveah Gutierrez both finished the match with four kills each. Kennedy Jackson added three kills. Grace Conger finished with two kills and Kaylee Kindred and Kimberly Clarahan both had one kill each.

Jaylah Redlinger had 10 assists. Clarahan had one assist.
