KEOTA – The Keota pool held movie screenings in the pool, with patrons floating on inner tubes as they watched aquatic films. “Under the Boardwalk” was shown the evening of August 1 and “Meg 2: The Trench” was shown on August 4. The projector, screen, speakers, trash cans for the park, popcorn machine and slushie machine were all purchased using a $5,000 grant from the Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation. The city plans to hold more movie screenings in the park in the fall and to have monthly screenings at the pool next year.

The pool screenings came in the middle of a wildly successful first season at the pool. “We’ve had outstanding numbers that have shown up every day,” said City Administrator Alycia Horras. “It’s exceeded what we projected would be for the first year. We have over 100 season passes sold, we had over 90 kids in swim lessons, and we will end up with about 27 party rentals. We have multiple daycares that show up twice a week, so we’ve had a great response.”
