KEOTA – During the June 11 meeting of the Keota School Board, Elementary and Middle School Principal Seth Milledge showed off testing results showing that Keota has improved substantially in Conditions for Learning, which includes things like student-student relationships, adult student relationships, boundaries and expectations, physical safety, and emotional safety. The school improved in every category and currently rates higher than both the Iowa average and Great Prairie AEA average in Conditions for Learning.

Superintendent and High School Principal Brenneman showed the board a professionally made advertisement for Keota Schools, which features Brenneman talking about the four-day week, high ISASP scores, and the new playground. The ad then transitions to students and staff talking about why they like the district. The ad has a 2:30 minute cut, which will be posted on the school’s website and Facebook, as well as a 30 second and one minute cut, which may be used for paid advertisements. Brenneman stated she will negotiate with movie theaters about running the ad.

Brenneman told the board that Keota had retained all teachers, except for one teacher who is leaving the field of education and one associate who is retiring. The board approved a new set of science curriculum, which will have freshmen studying biology, sophomores studying chemistry and juniors studying physics, to better match ISASP testing. The board approved making Algebra 2 a graduation requirement again, to make the school match state standards. The board approved a $7,800 quote from AAA to replace a damaged old boiler pump.
