AMES – “Orvis Orvison,” a Keota Readers Theater performed by Jake Morris, Chase Haifley, Gavin Sieren, Jackson Vittetoe and Luke Moeller, was given the coveted Outstanding rating at the State Large Group Speech contest in Pleasant Valley on Feb. 3. After receiving judges’ recommendations, the group performed at the All-State Festival at Iowa State University on Feb. 17. “Orvis Orvison” is an adaptation of a story from “How Angel Peterson Got His Name,” a short story collection by Gary Paulsen, about a teenage boy with an unfortunate name who deals with bullies by giving them a numbered list of punishments, then beating himself up when they shout a number.
