KEOTA – For five seniors they had one last chance to leave everything on their home court.

During their Oct. 8 match Keota battled Montezuma on the volleyball court. It was the last time that the five Eagle seniors would play on their home court this season.

Montezuma spoiled the senior night festivities with a 3-0 win however.

As Keota head volleyball coach Jenny Hobbs explained, much of the Eagles biggest opponents proved to be themselves.

“We did have a lot of bright moments tonight, the problem was the amount of unforced errors we had,” Hobbs said. “Right now we are just kind of beating ourselves. It is just something that we need to work on as we go into the final two weeks of the season.”

The first set was the most competitive of the three as Montezuma and Keota traded the lead back and forth through the early portions of the match.

The Eagles took a lead 9-7 early on, but a hard hit out of bounds sent Montezuma on a service run that resulted in the Bravettes winning 15 of the next 17 points, ultimately helping them win 25-14.

The second set started with a quick point for the Eagles, but the unforced errors quickly gave the lead to Montezuma who would go on to win 25-15. Montezuma capped off the match win with a 25-11 win in the third set.

“Keota has, forever, has been known as a scrappy, scrappy, scrappy team,” Hobbs said. “The killer for us right now is after the long volleys is we tend to make a mistake to give up the point. Our girls give maximum effort on every point.”

On Oct. 7 the Eagles fell 3-0 to Colfax-Mingo.

The Eagles stand at 3-11 overall on the season.
