Leda D. McAdams
Leda D. McAdams
1921-2021
Leda D. McAdams, age 100, of Sigourney, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
Leda was born June 4, 1921. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Amy (Thompson) and Billy Fuhs. On Jan. 30, 1940, she was united in marriage to Donald William McAdams and to this union, four sons were born. Donald preceded Leda in death in 1999.
Leda’s family was everything to her and over the years, she set many examples, such as be kind, have manners, and be generous with your time and money. Leda was very generous, often giving anyone who needed one a ride to doctor’s appointments anywhere, whether local or in Iowa City, and even loaned her car to a guy from Missouri to travel for his cancer treatments. Every fall, she would start making Christmas candy, using her iron skillet and magic spoon, and then enjoyed giving it all away to others. She told her family members when they got married, “no dumb kids and no ugly kids,” and they all tried their best to make her happy.
Leda enjoyed going places with her family and the kids looked forward to going, whether it be a trip to McDonalds or the dollar store for goodies, Adventureland every summer, and the local and State Fair. Leda attended nearly every event to watch her children and grandchildren, including sledding in the pasture, baseball, football, basketball, volleyball, marching band, and track.
Leda enjoyed flowers and gardening and took hundreds of flowers to the Garden Club and the fair. She would keep the blue ribbons and throw the red ones in a box. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed a bus trip with Lara and Donna to the Minnesota dome, where she had a great time.
Everyone enjoyed being at Leda’s, where they were allowed to play with her jewelry, nail polish, lipstick, check out her treasures in the basement, or explore the barn and sheds. There were no limits. She was a good cook and was known for her pancakes, beef & noodles, desserts with lots of whipped cream, and big pans of popcorn with real butter. Everyone knew that the good stuff was in the dryer and basement freezer, pizza, pot pies, ice cream bars, boxes of candy (maybe with bites out), and chips.
Leda is survived by three sons, Steve (Donna) McAdams, Tony (Luann) McAdams, and Dan (Sue) McAdams; her granddaughters, Lara and Neo McAdams and Jade (Pete) Link; her grandsons, Don (Mendy) McAdams, Brian (Lisa) McAdams, Aaron (Michele) McAdams, Jeremy (Erica) McAdams, Ben (Leann) McAdams, and Ryan McAdams; her great grandchildren, Melissa (Huey) Dao, Quintin McAdams, Hannah Mills, Lauren Swan, Harper and Dylan McAdams, and Jasmine and Brooke Glen; and her great-great grandchildren, Bentley, Payton, and Kenzie Dao, Hayden McAdams, and Colton Thurman. Leda is also survived by several good friends whom she worked with at Amana Refrigeration and elsewhere.
Leda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; a son, Mark Patrick; her mother, Amy Fuhs; sisters, Nielda Ruth and Marlene Jacobs; a brother, William James; her in-laws, William and Elizabeth McAdams, Mildred and Arvene Ward, Marie and Charles Jordan, and Ed and Doris McAdams; a niece, Rita Baker; and a nephew, Bill Jacobs.
Per Leda’s wishes, her body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Aug. 15, 2021 at Garrett Cemetery HWY 92 North of Delta. Following services there will be a potluck picnic at the Rose Hill Community Center at 12:30 p.m.
Round up all of your friends and go dancing! Remember you are the one with the purple ribbon Best of Show!!
A memorial has been established to the What Cheer Opera House.
