1945 - 2023

Marilyn F. Freeze, age 78, of Huxley IA, formerly of Walker and Thornburg, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Taylor Hospice House, in Des Moines.  Memorial service:  10:00 a.m., May 29, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with Rev. Joseph Blay officiating.  Visitation was May 28, from 3 to 6 p.m., at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.  Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.  Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Marilyn is survived by her husband James Freeze, four children, Jeffrey (Julie) Freeze, of Rogersville, TN, Ronald (Ann) Freeze, of Ave Maria, FL, Kristine (Henry) Haupert, of Huxley and Victoria (Matt) Zittergruen, of Walker; 19 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mike), Aaron, Sarah, Anthony, Andrew (Kat), Abbie, Nicholas (Alexyss), Marshall, Emilie (Brenden), Trevor, Callie, Amanda, Samantha (Marty), Jacqueline, Marcus, Ali, Ben, Patrick and Rebecca; four great-grandchildren, Logan, Henley, Audrey, Landon and one on the way; a brother Allen (Julie) Koenig; and a brother-in-law, Larry Wandling.  Marilyn was

preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mildred Koenig and a sister Vivian Wandling.

Marilyn Faye Koenig was born January 10, 1945, in Marengo.  She is the daughter of the late Fred and Mildred (Kahler) Koenig.  Marilyn graduated from Marengo high school in 1963 and continued her education at William Penn University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in education.  She was united in marriage to James B. Freeze on June 5, 1965, in Marengo. Marilyn was a fourth-grade elementary teacher for 28 years at Tri-County community school, in Thornburg from 1970 until 2003.  When not teaching elementary, Marilyn taught preschool. She detasseled corn for many years and assisted with the bus crew.  She was alumni of Alpha Nu and a member of the Tri-County Education Association. Marilyn was very family oriented.  She loved spending time with her children and their families, attending their life activities.  Marilyn enjoyed traveling, especially to go and see her grand and great-grandchildren.
