Mary Lou Kitterman, 93
Mary Lou Kitterman was born in What Cheer, Iowa, on December 15, 1930, to Orris C. Lyons and Clarissia Mary {Mertz} Lyons. She was a longtime resident of Burlington. She died peacefully at S. E. Iowa Regional Hospice on December 20, 2023, at the age of 93.
Mary Lou attended S.E. Iowa Community College and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Robert Glenn. She married Robert “Bob” Kitterman on December 10, 1955. They were married for 45 years until his death.
Mary Lou was devoted to home, family and friends. She took pride in her family and surrounded herself with family history. One of her greatest joys was hosting friends around the kitchen table. Her home was a gathering place, and she catered to each and every one. Mary Lou enjoyed cooking and baking and shared with all she knew. She looked forward to spending winters in Gulfport, MS and made numerous friends there. She was caring, generous and FUN!
Mary Lou was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 150 and the Elks Lodge #84. She loved to golf and was a member of the Deerwood Golf Club, New London, IA. She volunteered for many community events over the years.
Left to cherish Mary Lou’s memory are cousins Carol Mertz McNabb, Mariann {Charles} Sigafoose, William {Bonnie} Mertz, Marilyn Mertz and Barbara Harris along with a host of friends. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob, an infant daughter, Lujene Mary and companion, David Chubb.
A very special thank you to Dr. Laura Hadden, S.E. Iowa Regional Hospice and to her many dear friends and neighbors who supported her with much love.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made in Mary Lou’s honor to S.E. Iowa Regional Hospice and to the Des Moines County Humane Society.
