Michael “Whitey” Johnson, 56

KEOTA-Michael “Whitey” Johnson, age 56, of Keota, died Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

Mike was born May 21, 1967, in Ames, to David Cottrill and Patricia (Billman) Huber and graduated from Keota High School, where he played football and baseball.  Mike lived in Keota and worked in construction, most recently for Navigate Homes in Iowa City.  He bowled in several leagues and was currently a member of the Sunday Night Mixed League in Iowa City.

Survivors include his mother: Pat Huber of Coralville; father: David Cottrill of Ames; step-father: Dan Huber of Washington; sisters: Angela (Brian) Wood of Ainsworth, Kim (Pat) Crawford of Keota, Kristen (Ben) Klein of Tiffin, Chelsea Taylor of Ames and Kathryn McCoy of Ames; fiancé: Missy Yoder of Keota and her children: Dulaney and Savannah; aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and one niece.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts and uncles.



His body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.  Burial will be at Keota Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
