1926-2020

SIGOURNEY-Mildred I. Mather, age 93, of Sigourney, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

Mildred was born Dec. 27, 1926, in rural Sigourney, to Paul and Helen (Marshall) Clubb and received her education in country school. On Oct. 27, 1948, she married James Edgar Mather at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. The couple lived and farmed west of Webster. Mildred was a member of the Keswick United Methodist Church and supported community organizations but was never a member. She enjoyed gardening, helping others who needed help, playing cards, fishing, dancing and working on the farm, especially raising chickens.

Survivors include her daughter: Helen Bombei-Dobbins of Cedar Rapids; daughters-in-law: Evelyn Mather of Ottumwa and Debra Rathman of Riverside; eight grandchildren: Matt (Heather) Bombei, Heather (Casey) Bilden, Mindy (Shane) Morse, Valerie (Brown) Montague, Amy (Paul) Jandritsovits, Andy (Linda) Mather, Nancy Mather and Mary Mather; 15 great-grandchildren; sister: Janice (Kenneth) Middlekauff of Williamsburg and brother: Francis (Debra) Clubb of Sigourney. She was preceded in death by her parents; husabnd: James in 1995; two sons: James and Gary Mather; sisters: Julie Ann Hammes and Gertrude Gibson and four brothers: Robert, George, Ray and William Clubb.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Matt Bombei officiating. The service was also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page. Burial was at Sorden Cemetery in rural Webster. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Mask usage and social distancing are required for the visitation and funeral.

A general memorial has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Mildred and her family. Tributes may be made at Powell Funeral Home.
