Miller’s Magic Unable to Lift Pekin Girls Past Highland
PACKWOOD—On January 9, the Pekin Panthers girls basketball team hosted the Highland Huskies for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference-North matchup. The Huskies snuck past the Panthers by a final score of 43-41.
The Huskies jumped out to a 5-1 after a quarter of play. Pekin came storming back to the tune of a 18-7 run in the second quarter to secure a 19-12 halftime lead. Highland stormed back to the tune of out-scoring the Panthers 13-8 to cut the Panthers lead down to two at 27-25. The Huskies kept the momentum going into the third en route to defeating the Panthers by a final score of 43-41.
Senior Brook Miller put on a show for Panthers fans, as she amassed 23 points on the night. The height of her heroics came when she hit a deep three pointer with a little over a minute left to the game at 41 apiece. The big scoring night from Miller was unable to lift the Panthers past the Huskies.
The Panthers fall to 1-10 on the season, with a conference record of 1-5. They will return to action on January 10, when they host the Wapello Arrows.
