Molyneux Homers and Phillips Knocks in Five in Savage Baseball Win
KEOTA—The Keota Eagles hosted the Sigourney Savages for a South Iowa Cedar League matchup on May 24. The Savages bested the Eagles by a final score of 7-2.
It was a scoreless game through three innings before Max Phillips smacked a double to drive in two runs. The Eagles responded in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Savage lead down to 2-1, and eventually tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.
In the top of the sixth, Reid Molyneux gave the Savages a lead with a bomb to left center. Molyneux spoke on what was running through his head before hitting the home run with, “It was a tied game. I had to do something for my team to set the tone for those later innings. When he threw that down the middle for me, I just ripped it, and I think that got the team going.”
The Savages added four more in the top of the seventh. The highlight of the four run inning was a bases clearing double by Max Phillips. In total, Phillips knocked in five of the seven Savage runs on the day. He highlighted his performance with, “I was just trying to stay within myself, and do everything possible I could to help my team.”
After the win, Sigourney head coach Lee Crawford shared an anecdote about him and his wife before the game. He described how he spoke to his wife before the game, and said, “I really feel like our bats are going to come to life at some point.” Coach Crawford was extremely pleased to see his prediction come true, and hopes to see his team keep this up.
The Savages advance to 3-1 on the season, and will return to action on May 25, when they face the Don Bosco Dons in a neutral location.
The Eagles fall to 3-3 on the season, and will return to action on May 30, when they host the Belle Plaine Plainsmen.
