Panthers Put Up 76 in Rout of Cardinal
PACKWOOD—No better way to excite a fan base than scoring 76 points in the home opener. The Panthers did that and shut out the Cardinal Comets in the 2024 home opener.
Pekin Head Coach Klynt Weber described being able to secure the win in week one as, “Starting the season off with a win is very valuable. Confidence early in the season is always beneficial. We know we have plenty to work on but excited to start 1-0.”
The Panthers offense was led by seniors Will Adam and Nolan Glick. The two rushed for 252 total yards and eight rushing touchdowns. Adam added 63 passing yards and a passing touchdown.
Coach Weber spoke on the hard work players like Will Adam and many others put into getting this result with, “Will as well as many others have put continuous amounts of work that is showing dividends. I really think the work ethic developed in the last three years had a lot to do with our ability to start fast the other night.”
In total, the Panthers offense tallied 496 total yards, while holding the Comets to only 16 total yards. Pure domination on both sides of the football.
The Panthers did not have to send out the punting unit throughout the duration of the game.
Coach Weber described his postgame message to the team as, “I told our kids to enjoy the win over the weekend but to come back focused and ready to move on to week 2 on Monday. One game means nothing.”
The Panthers start the season 1-0, and will return to action September 6, when they host Van Buren County.
