Panthers Take Second Overall at Columbus Tournament
COLUMBUS - Before the wrestlers could enjoy a little break they had one more meet before Thanksgiving.
On Nov. 26 the Pekin girls wrestling team wrestled at the Columbus girls wrestling tournament where they placed second out of 11 schools. The Panthers scored 128 points, Burlington, who finished with 181 total points won the tournament.
Lila Miller added another victory to her list of accomplishments this year. Miller was the champion of the 135-pound bracket. She pinned her first two opponents in a total of 42 seconds. She needed 1:09 to earn a win by pin in the championship match.
Hailey Pedrick won the 140-pound bracket. She won her first round match with a pin in 1:22. In the semifinals Pedrick needed just 1:25 to win her match.
In the championship match Pedrick was able to pin her opponent in one minute and two seconds to earn the victory.
Lexa Nelson wrestled in the 110-pound bracket where she finished second overall. Nelson won her semifinal round with a 6-4 decision. She was then pinned in the first round match.
Reece Brisby also finished second in the tournament. She wrestled in the 125-pound bracket. After earning two first period pins, Brisby was pinned in the second period of the championship match.
Ivory Small would place third overall in the 130-pound bracket. Small recovered from a first round defeat, to pin her next two opponents in the first period to take home third.
Ella Rose was fourth overall in the 145-pound bracket. She was pinned in her semifinal round match, but bounced back with a first period pin in the consolation semifinals. In the third place match she was pinned in 1:20.
Rylee Frye was able to finish fourth in the 235-pound bracket. She started her day with a win by pin in 1:22 in the quarterfinals. After being pinned in the second period of the semifinals, Frye battled throughout the third place match, but was pinned in the third period.
Bree Earnest was sixth overall in the meet. She wrestled in the 120 pound bracket. After winning her first round match with a first period pin, Earnest was injured in the semifinals. Earnest had to forfeit her next matches to finish sixth overall.
