Pekin Girls Placed First at Co-Ed Savage Relays

SIGOURNEY—On April 25, the Pekin Panthers track team traveled to Sigourney for the 2023 Savage Relays. The Pekin girls team took home first place with an aggregate score of 139, while the boys finished in ninth place with a score of 26.

Girls:

For the team events for the girls, the Panthers took home the gold in four events: the 4x400 meter relay, the 4x800 meter relay, the sprint medley and the distance medley. The 4x400 team, that was made up of Sabrina Reneker, Chloe Glosser, Claire Roth and Audrey Fariss, finished in 4:25.36, while the 4x800 team that consisted of Audrey Fariss, Alex Parsons, Brooke Miller and Chloe Glosser crossed the finish line in 10:37.78. This time of 10:37.78 was a new meet record for the 4x800 meter relay.

The sprint medley team finished in 2:00.89, and consisted of Lily Reneker, Claire Roth, Audrey Fariss and Sabrina Reneker. The distance medley team was made up of Lauren Conklin, Sabrina Reneker, Audrey Fariss and Chloe Glosser. 

Lastly for the team events for the girls, the Panthers secured fourth in the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdles with a time of 1:21.27. The shuttle hurdles team included Abby Guise, Renae Eubanks, Payten Coleman and Kayse Miller.

For the individual events for the girls, Anna Hadley secured first place in both the discus and shot put events. In the discus event she threw a recorded distance of 120-01, while having a recorded throw of 35-03.25 in the shot put event.

Claire Roth secured the silver in the long jump event with a longest jump recorded at 16-01.50. Roth also placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:06.41.

Kayse Miller finished in second place in the high jump event with a highest jump recorded at 4-10.

In the 200 meter dash, Lily Reneker placed fourth with a final time of 27.86. Reneker also secured the bronze in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.57.

Audrey Fariss was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.95. This set a record for the fastest 800 meter run in the history of the Savage relays. Alex Parson also placed fourth in the same event with a time of 2:44.29. 

Chloe Glosser set a new meet record with a time of 4:59.54 in the 1500 meter run, while breezing her way to first place in the event. Lauren Steigleder also finished in third in the same event with a time of 5:27.68, while Brooke Miller was right behind her in fourth with a time of 5:41.74.

Lauren Steigleder also took home the silver in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:40.02.

Lastly for the individual events for the girls, Renae Eubanks and Abby Guise finished back to back in the 400 meter hurdles. Eubanks secured fifth with a time of 1:19.18, while Guise placed sixth with a time of 1:19.36.

Boys:

For the team events for the boys, the Panthers placed fourth in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:39.65. The 4x200 team was made up of Robert Brown, Sven Dahlstrom, Will Adam and Nolan Glick.

In the distance medley, they secured fifth with a time of 4:06.00. The distance medley team consisted of Sven Dahlstrom, Robert Brown, Nolan Glick and Riley Smith.

For the individual events, Cole Millikin was the third runner to cross the finish line in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:47.58.

Will Adam placed fifth in the long jump event with a longest jump recorded at 18-10.

Lastly for the individual events for the boys, JaeDon Wolver took home the bronze in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.08. Riley Smith also placed ninth in the same event with a time of 1:05.71.

The Panthers track teams will return to action on April 28, when they head to Cardinal high school for the Bob Gerald Relays.
