Pekin Rolls in Backyard Brawl, 73-36
Sigourney’s early 5-1 lead on Saturday quickly evaporated by a 19-0 Pekin run to end the first quarter.
“After losing in football they wanted to make sure and take care of business on the court,” Coach Swanson said.
Pekin’s defense continued to be dominant by allowing another single digit second quarter, the game was 39-12 at half.
Sobaski scored nine of Pekin’s 24 points in the third quarter as the Panthers extended to a 63-22 lead.
Four Panthers finished in double figures: Sobaski with 19, Lyle with 17, Stull with 11 and Millikin with 10.
Coach Swanson attributes this offensive attack to having players pick up the slack if someone is having an off night, “One of the reasons we've had so much success the last few years is because of our balanced scoring night in and night out. If one guy is out or having an off night somebody else steps up to pick up the slack.”
Pekin also did well distributing the ball, a point of pride for Coach Swanson’s offense as well.
“I was really happy with the way we passed the ball vs Sigourney. We racked up 22 assists on the night.”
Levi Crawford led Sigourney with 14 points on the night.
Sigourney played at WACO (1-7) Monday night and won 49-35. They played BGM (1-9) Tuesday night and won 45-39. On Friday, they play at Lynnville-Sully (5-4).
Pekin played Winfield-Mount Union (4-4) Tuesday night and won 59-40. On Friday they play at home against the Mediapolis Bulldogs (2-7) and on Saturday they play the Cardinal Comets (5-4).
