SIGOURNEY – The Keokuk County Public Health Department has finally moved to a new building located at 1303 200th Ave, on the northern edge of Sigourney, next to the golf course and Sinclair Tractor. This building is also currently used by the Keokuk County Emergency Management Department and Department of Human Services. The department originally planned to move to the new building in June of last year; these plans were delayed after a car crashed through the wall of the building, days before the move.

The Public Health Department offers home health, tracks communicable disease, offers vaccinations, medication management, catheter care, and education for the community. The department held an open house on Feb. 14 to celebrate the move, offering free blood pressure tests and vaccine checks for visitors.

“It’s been wonderful,” said Director Allie Helmuth, about the move. “I was a little bit nervous about moving out of Sigourney and being in the heart of the town, but we’re hearing wonderful feedback. The parking, they don’t have to fight people going into the courthouse, using the elevator. The space has been wonderful, the conference room has been great, so I couldn’t complain.”
