Richard “Bud” Stringfellow, 84, of Gibson died Monday, Jan. 18, 2021 at the Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and last until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Facemasks and social distancing will be required for all who attend.
Richard Lee Stringfellow was born in Gibson, Iowa on Aug. 28, 1936, the son of Robert and Mildred McDowell Stringfellow. Bud was a 1954 graduate of Gibson High School. Then on June 8, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marilyn JoAnn Trusler at her parent’s home near Gibson. Bud worked for Wemer Buying Station and as a farm hand before eventually operating Bud’s Mobil in Gibson. He also raised Poland China breeding stock, drove a school bus and sold McCreedy Seed Corn. Bud also enjoyed collecting most anything from coins, spoons, hats and even pens. He was a member of the Gibson Presbyterian Church where he served as Trustee for several years. Bud also served as Trustee for Sixteen Cemetery for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill Stringfellow; and a granddaughter, Andrea Allison.
Bud is survived by his wife, Marilyn Stringfellow; a son, Terry Stringfellow; a daughter, Leigh Ann (Merle) Allison; and eight grandchildren, Michelle, Megan and Chris Allison and Benjamin, Nathaniel, Philip, Emily and Josiah Stringfellow.
