Ronald “Ron” Conner, 77, of North Liberty, rode his final rodeo, as he would put it, home to God on November 14, 2024.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Visitation is Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Private committal service is at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the service at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, or The Regina Foundation.
Ron was born on August 29, 1947 in Sigourney, Iowa to Wilford “Pete” and Mabel (Oliver) Conner. He earned his Bachelor’s Business of Administration Degree from The University of Iowa. He worked as a retail manager for various companies in Iowa City before his retirement in 2012.
He married his first wife Carole Rubenbauer in 1970. The couple raised their three children April, Jon and Joel, and enjoyed 39 years of marriage until Carole passed away in 2009. Ron married Terry Dervrich on March 16, 2012 and together the couple spent 12 loving and memorable years together.
Faith was very important to Ron. He was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, a Stephen Minister, and a leader in the Knights of Columbus and CEW (Christian Experience Weekend).
Ron was a proud grandpa, cheering his grandchildren on in all of their extra- curricular activities, boating with family and friends, and he loved his Hawkeyes. Ron and Terry bowled in the Senior League at Colonial lanes.
Ron is survived by his wife Terry Conner, three children April (Chad) Eich, Jonathan (Sarah) Conner, and Joel (Tricia) Conner, step-son Sean (Casey) Dervrich, grandchildren Austen and Lyla Eich, Kennedy and Reagan Conner, Theo and Ivy Conner, and Rhys Dervrich, sister Melody Conner, and sisters-in-law Ardelle Conner, Sister Suzanne Rubenbauer and Mary (Roger) Baumhover, mother-in-law Theresa Gavaghan, and brother-in-law James (Lori) Gavaghan, and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Carole, siblings Billy Conner and Sharon Kimberlin, mother-in-law Norma Rubenbauer, and his two beloved dogs Shamie and Java.
