Savages Fall to Lynnville-Sully by Walk-Off
SULLY—On June 3, the Sigourney Savages baseball team visited the Lynnville-Sully Hawks for a matchup of the top teams in the SICL Conference. The Hawks snuck past the Savages by a final score of 4-3 via a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh.
Lynnville-Sully struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Savages responded with a run of their own in the top of the second. After four innings, the Hawks had pushed to a 2-1 lead.
The top of the fifth was a huge momentum shifter for the Savages, as they scored two runs and took a 3-2 lead. Junior Caden Clarahan knocked in two of the Savages runs, while Brady Clark brought home one runner with a sacrifice.
The Hawks would tie the game at 3 apiece in the bottom of the fifth. Both teams were unable to score in the sixth, and the Savages came up empty in the top of the seventh. The Hawks made the most of the opportunity, and won the game via a walk-off.
Sigourney Head Coach Lee Crawford described what he saw from his team going up against the second ranked team in Class 1A as, “I think we can play with them. Little things here and there. I think our kids know we can hang with the top ranked teams. We feel like we are getting disrespected a little bit.”
The Savages tally their first loss of the season, but they have a quick turnaround as they visit Alburnette on June 4.
