Savages Secure 10th Straight Conference Win

SIGOURNEY—The Sigourney Savages hosted the North Mahaska Warhawks on June 14 for a conference matchup. The Savages stomped the Warhawks by a final score of 10-0.

It was another stellar performance from the bump for Carly Goodwin. She secured another perfect game, as she went five innings with no earned run on no hits and 13 strikeouts. Goodwin pushed her season ERA down to 0.44, and pushed her strikeouts to 161 on the season. She currently holds the second most strikeouts in all classes.

Ava Fisch led the team with three RBIs on the season. Kenzi VanDenHueval and Amiya Smallwood also notched two RBIs each. 

Josephine Moore knocked in an RBI, which pushes her total to 30 on the season. She currently has the 13th most RBIs in all of the classes in the state of Iowa. She also is tied for the second highest batting average in all classes with a 0.667 batting average. Moore spoke on the success she has had from the plate with, “All I have to do is see the ball, be the game. I practice every day, and I just need to see it and hit it.” She went on to describe the feeling of being a top batter in the state of Iowa with, “I am really proud of myself. That is a big accomplishment for me, and I have been working hard, so I think I deserve it.”

Head Coach Shelly Striegle spoke on what she has seen from Moore so far in the season with, “I would expect nothing less from her. She’s such a hard worker, and she takes great cuts. She works all year round at being a good hitter, as well as our second pitcher. She would start (at pitcher) on any other team in the conference. She is just such a very talented and hard working young lady that I am blessed to have on my team, but she is not the only one.”

The Savages push to 13-2 on the season, and will return to action on June 16, when they visit the Belle Plaine Plainsmen.
