Schultz, Greiner win Pekin special election
KEOKUK COUNTY- In an election marred by low turnout, Jared Schultz and John Greiner were the two victors in Tuesday’s Pekin special school board election. Schultz won a three-way race for the vacant director at-large seat, while Greiner squeaked past Katie Keith to secure the vacant director district 5 seat.
In the at-large race, Schultz posted big numbers in Keokuk County and Jefferson County to overwhelm Shawn Echelberry and Jill Silvers. Schultz received 147 votes, while Echelberry received 57 votes, and Silvers received 46 votes.
The director district 5 seat was too close to call until results from Keokuk County delivered the victory for John Greiner. Greiner received a total of 134 votes, while Keith received 115 votes.
Results from the Jan. 21 special election remain unofficial until being canvassed by each respective county’s board of supervisors. Schultz and Greiner are expected to take their seats on the board in February.
