Shilling leads Tri-County at Centerville tournament

CENTERVILLE – Tri-County’s trio of wrestlers had another successful meet last week. 

Wrestling at the Centerville scramble all three wrestlers walked away with a top-four finish. 

Layla Shilling led the way for the Trojans. Wrestling in the 140-pound bracket Shilling started off her tournament with two quick wins. 

First she needed just 64 seconds to win her first round match against a Baxter opponent. She then needed just 1:23 to pin a Chariton opponent in the next round. 

After being pinned by an Albia opponent in the third round, Shilling was able to cap off the night with a pin in 1:05 over a Moravia opponent. 

Gracen MacCready would finish third in the 100-pound division. She started off with a win in the first round with a major decision 17-9 victory. 

In the second round she was pinned in 1:23. MacCready was able to bounce back by pinning a Clarke opponent in 2:52. Her day finished with  her being pinned by a Chariton opponent in 1:12. 

Kylie Gibson finished fourth in the 130-pound division. Gibson’s first match ended early with her falling via tech fall. 

In the second round Gibson was pinned in 19 seconds. In the third round she was pinned in 28 seconds. 

Gibson was able to win her fourth round by a medical forfeit. 

Later in the week at the Colfax tournament the Trojans wrestled well. 

MacCready wrestled again in the 100-pound bracket. She was pinned twice in her three rounds. 

Gibson wrestled in the 130-pound division and finished with an 0-2 record. 

Shilling wrestled in the 140-pound bracket. Shilling was able to win her first round match with a pin in 46 seconds. 

After being pinned by a Colfax-Mingo opponent in the quarterfinals, Shilling started the consolation round match with a 23 second win over a Central Decatur opponent. Shilling had to forfeit her remaining matches because of a medical forfeit.
