IOWA VALLEY—On May 29, the Sigourney Savages visited the Iowa Valley Tigers for a SICL matchup. During the match, senior Carly Goodwin secured her 1,000th strikeout as a Savage.

On the season, Goodwin has already pushed her strikeout total to 75. Her junior season, she set her all-time season high with 325 strikeouts.

When asked about the emotion of further cementing her legacy, Goodwin described the moment with, “That’s a goal I have been working for since eighth grade, and I knew at the beginning of the year I was pretty close. Being able to achieve that in the first couple weeks is amazing. It’s something special that not a lot of people are able to do. I am just happy I got to achieve this with my teammates behind my back.”

Every offseason Goodwin has worked on her game to improve, whether it be velocity in her fastball, or working on being more consistent with her rise-ball and change-up. She spoke on all of this coming together to achieve this goal with, “It feels really good. It is a lot of hard work that people don’t necessarily see all the time. I know my teammates understand, especially Josephine (Moore) because she has been with me every step of the way. She was just as happy for me as I was for myself, and that’s what made it feel awesome.”

Sigourney Head Coach Shelly Striegle spoke on seeing her player secure this accolade with, “It is really cool for me being a former pitcher. I know how much it means to her, and how hard she worked for it. I just applaud her.”
