DANVILLE—The Sigourney Savages opened their postseason on February 12 by visiting the Danville Bears. The Bears bested the Savages by a final score of 62-52.

The game was close throughout the duration, but the Bears continued to push their lead quarter by quarter. The Bears out-scored the Savages in the three of the four quarters, albeit only by 10 total points, en route to the 62-52 victory.

Junior forward Isaac Bruns led the Savages with 26 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore John Berg crashed the glass hard, as he finished his night with a team high 11 rebounds.

Sigourney Head Coach Mitch Eslick described his final message to the team as, “The work really starts now. We have to improve in a lot of areas if we want to be good enough to achieve further goals like competing for a conference championship and making a deep run in the postseason. It is a very hard working group so I have no doubt they will take those steps towards that.”

The Savages made tremendous progress throughout the season that can be illustrated by an eight game win streak from January 5 to February 2. During this stretch, the Savages put up 56.8 points per game as an offense, and as a defense they held opposing teams to 32.4 points per game.

Junior Isaac Bruns averaged 15.2 points, 3.25 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game during this stretch. Sophomore Solon Yates was the second leading scorer with 13.9 points per game, while freshman Ike Molyneux filled out the stat sheet averaging 9.1 points, 4.1 assists and five rebounds per game. All three players will return to the Savages next year with much more experience under their belts.

The Savages finished their season with an overall record of 13-9, and third in the SICL-East division with a conference record of 10-7.
