Sigourney Council Approves Fencing for Pickleball Court
SIGOURNEY – During the Nov. 6 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, the council approved a community betterment request for new fencing at the pickleball court, which will relocate the gate to the front of the court and add a walkway fence in the middle, to stop a problem of balls crossing over. The betterment request is for up to $9,000. A representative of the pickleball players stated that they may ask for another betterment request in the future, for concrete work. Councilman Adam Clark asked how many people used the court. Councilwoman Stephani Lentz stated it is surprisingly popular and that 50 people had participated in the 4th of July tournament.
The council ordered the removal of a vicious dog in town. According to Code Enforcer Doug Glandon, a resident was walking her dog on Oct. 15, when her dog was attacked by an at-large staffordshire terrier, a breed similar to pit bulls. The resident’s dog needed to be taken to the vet. She also was bitten on her hand and elbow while trying to get her dog away, but did not need medical treatment. Mayor Jimmy Morlan noted that he has seen loose dogs around town, and fears they may attack when he walks his dogs. City ordinances require the terrier be removed from the city. The council approved sending a letter giving the dog’s owner 14 days to move it out of town.
The council approved putting a street attachment for the skidloader up for sale. Public Works Director Don Northup explained that the attachment was purchased around 2008 or 2010, and is rarely used, because the newer street sweepers the city used are more versatile. The council will accept sealed bids, with a minimum bid of $2,000, until Dec. 4.
