SIGOURNEY – During the Jan. 15 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, the council discussed switching from Cloudburst to T-Mobile as the internet provider at the water plant and sewer lagoon. Public Works Director Don Northup explained that Cloudburst’s internet goes down often, sometimes for days at a time. Mayor Jimmy Morlan asked how reliable T-Mobile was. Northup stated he had heard good things. City Clerk Ashley Fry stated it works great for her. City Councilman Gary Iosbaker asked if they knew it was a signal problem, stating he was concerned the switch wouldn’t fix things. Northup stated that the internet comes line-of-sight from the water tower, which gets blocked in the summer by lives. The switch will cost $52 per month per location, up from the current free internet provided by Cloudburst in return for access to the water tower. Northup stated that being free doesn’t mean much when if it doesn’t work.

Also at the Wednesday meeting, the council approved paying True Green $7,996 per year for three years to spray Legion Park, the ball fields, the soccer fields, and Town Square Park. This price remains the same as what the city paid True Green last year. Northup stated that it would take a few years to see a real difference from the spraying.
