Sigourney Council Discusses Meeting With Façade Project Owners

SIGOURNEY – During the Oct. 16 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, the council discussed possibly meeting with building owners from the façade project to discuss the adverse impact of the project. Councilman Gary Iosbaker explained that several properties were damaged as part of the project, and that he would like to see if there are any reasonable steps the city could take to mitigate this damage. Iosbaker noted this could be a slippery slope. Mayor Jimmy Morlan said it was important to let the property owners know that the city tried to do their best and wanted to keep everyone happy, rather than walking away and saying “deal with it.” Councilman Randy Schultz stated the things the city could do were very limited, but that there were a few things they could do to remedy the situation. He stated that, if the city were to do a project of this nature again, they would want it to end with everyone reasonably happy. He stated that construction always comes with surprises and unexpected expenses, making it hard to be satisfied.

The council approved submitting KCCEF grant requests to replace the tumble buckets at the city pool splash pad and to install a second speed sign on Pleasant Valley by the high school. Councilwoman Stephani Lentz asked if the current speed sign had been working. Councilman Adam Clark stated the sheriff’s department had received less complaints about speeding. Iosbaker stated it makes him slow down when he sees it.
