Sigourney-Keota's Ground Attack and Stifling Defense Crush Pleasantville, 33-7

Isaac Bruns had 210 rushing yards and four touchdowns against Pleasantville

SIGOURNEY—In the battle of styles last Friday, September 27 it was the Sigourney-Keota bruising running game and dominant defense that ruled the day as the Cobras defeated Pleasantville, 33-7.

“This was a great win for us,” said Sigourney-Keota head coach Jared Jensen. “This kind of win shows this group that they can be just as good as the team’s that came before them.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Cobra senior Isaac Bruns broke open the game with an eight yard touchdown run.

Following suit was sophomore Ike Molyneux with his own rushing score with less than a minute left in the first half.

On the very first play of the third quarter, Bruns broke free for a 47 yard touchdown run, a play Coach Jensen felt deflated Pleasantville’s possible comeback attempt.

“That was a statement play,” Jensen said. “It really took the wind out of their sails.”

Bruns added two more scores to his stat line in the fourth quarter. In total he carried the ball 22 times for 210 yards with the four scores. Making his night even more impressive was that he hauled in an interception on defense.

Molyneux finished the game with 61 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown

The Cobras running game produced over 300 rushing yards, something Coach Jensen equated to the play of his offensive linemen - seniors Landyn Greiner, Ashton Schwab, Billie Kindred, Jax Weber and junior Owen Menke.

Defensively, Sigourney-Keota had their best performance of the season so far holding Pleasantville, a team averaging 30 points a game to just one score.

“A lot of planning and preparation went into that Friday night,” Jensen said. “We knew pressure and coverage were going to play a big factor and we did a great job with both.

Leading the team in tackles were Ashton Schwab and fellow senior Brady Clark with four each. Sophomore Carson O’Rourke hauled in the Cobras second interception of the night.

This Friday, Sigourney-Keota hits the road again, this time to Pella to take on Pella Christian (1-4).

“We’re playing with a lot of confidence right now,” Jensen said. “This is another District Title type game and we need to keep playing like we have and keep that momentum.”
