SIGOURNEY – Last week the City of Sigourney announced an exciting opportunity to area property owners in central Sigourney. The Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program is administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and is intended to help communities such as Sigourney activate development of underutilized buildings.

This is a grant program intended to assist communities with the redevelopment, rehabilitation, or deconstruction of underutilized buildings to stimulate economic growth or reinvestment in the community. Funding is based upon annual availability with a maximum grant of $100,000. The funds are available for the rehabilitation of one commercial building per community or two buildings with the same ownership that are adjacent.

The City of Sigourney is currently accepting proposals from property owners that would like to be considered for this grant.  The City needs a one-page proposal that includes contact information, building address, summary of the proposed project (design and use of building), how the project will be catalytic or important to the City’s downtown, funding sources and an estimated budget.

Please note that time is short. You are asked to submit your proposal by January 15th to City Hall at 100 North Main Street, or you may email it to sigourneyclerk@iowatelecom.net.

For more information or should you have questions you may contact Angie Alderson, City Clerk at 641-622-3080.
