Sigourney Sweeps Cardinal in Home Opener

SIGOURNEY—In a gym where temperatures reached 84°, the Savages did not waver and secured their home opener victory over Cardinal in three straight sets.

In total, the Savages outscored the Comets 75-46 en route to the three set sweep.

Sigourney Head Coach Sierra Davis spoke of her team fighting through the heat with, “We just talked about it beforehand. Let’s use this to our advantage. They aren’t used to the heat like we are. We play in it everyday in practice. Just using that to our advantage, and getting the three and getting out.” 

The power hitting Savages displayed their net presence all night with 24 kills and four blocks.

Senior Reagan Clarahan led the charge with nine kills and two blocks. Junior Addy Fineran and sophomore Bailey Gretter also tallied five kills apiece.

Gretter was also one of the facilitators on the night with six assists. Senior Taylor Rozenboom led the charge as the main setter with 14 assists.

Midway through the game, the Savages made a switch at libero from senior Hannah Hanselman to senior Dani Aller.

Coach Davis spoke on this change with, “Just early in the season, still trying to fit all the pieces to the puzzle. They all worked really hard. Hannah (Hanselman) and Dani (Aller) have been battling it out all season. Just trying to see what’s best for the team.”

The Savages push to 3-1 on the season, and secure a win in their home opener. They will return to action on September 7, when they head to English Valleys for a tournament.
