SIGOURNEY-Verna Edmundson, age 89, of Sigourney, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022, at her home in Sigourney.

Verna was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Sigourney, to Myrl and Ethel (Hollingsworth) Appleget.  She attended Doggett school eight years and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1950.  Verna then attended AIB in Des Moines.  On June 22, 1952, she married C. Gene Edmundson at the Sigourney United Methodist Church.  The couple lived in Sigourney where Verna worked at the Sheriff’s Office, Clerk of Court, Recorder’s Office and 20 years in the Keokuk County Engineering Department, retiring in 1990.  She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing with her husband, traveling, especially her trip to Germany, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons: David (Becky) Edmundson of Eldridge and Joe (Stacy) Edmundson of Andover, Kansas; five grandchildren: Scott, Rachel, Mitchell, Jack and Nick; brother: Rex (Barb) Appleget of Swisher; sister: Ruth Deitrich of Davenport; two sisters-in-law: Jean Appleget and Rosemary Appleget; many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gene “Weenie” Edmundson; two brothers: Dean and Clarence Appleget and brother-in-law: John Deitrich.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Rev. Cathy Nutting officiating.  Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney.  Visitation was from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
