PACKWOOD – The main water valve at Pekin Middle School malfunctioned on the morning of Mar. 13, flooding the office area, bathroom, and one classroom. Safety measures attempted to divert water to a drain, but the drain could not handle the amount of water. Students were not in the area at the time of the leak. The school custodial staff began cleaning the area immediately, assisted by the company SERVPRO. Middle school students were temporarily relocated to other classrooms. Superintendent Derek Philips stated that the school was never flooded, but that they needed to make sure the area was dry before students returned. Most of the classrooms were fine to return to the following Tuesday.

“I want to thank our custodial crew and staff for their quick response to ensure it was not worse, and that our kids were safe,” stated Philips.
